About the Composer/Performer

Judy Domeny Bowen is a folk musician, songwriter, and a longtime elementary school teacher who lives with her husband on a farm in Missouri. Judy is a popular performer at schools and conventions. In her charming, informal style, she sings songs which she has written for teachers accompanying herself on an acoustic guitar played in finger picking and flat picking styles.

Judy knows firsthand the joys and frustrations educators experience daily. Her songs provide humor and stress-relief at the end of a long week in the classroom, at faculty meetings, and other gatherings of educators.

Both of Judy's CD's make great gifts for student teachers, first-year teachers, retiring teachers, and all those in between!

Stress is relieved by laughter and by understanding. Judy's songs range from hilarious to sensitive. In her song, "Happy Snow Days," the teachers enjoy the white surprise as much as the children. In "Brandon Moved Away," we share a teacher's concern for a foster child and relate to this teacher's hopes that she made a difference in his life.

Review Title: Hits Your Funny Bone and Heartstrings
Judy Bowen's Teacher Therapy is a must for all who have ever taught or been taught! Judy Bowen portrays the sense of humor that teachers use to survive daily routines, trials and frustrations in songs such as "Faculty Meetings," ... These songs will have you in stitches. But beyond the surface level of humor in Judy Bowen's songs, there is a consistent message that she, like teachers everywhere, truly loves working with children. This presents itself in "A Million Things," worrying that too much time is being taken away from the children for other tasks, ... one of my personal favorites paints the warm, safe and accepting sanctuary that schools hold for children despite what may be going on outside its walls. But most of all, the compassion and empathy that teachers feel toward their students ... is superbly written into Judy Bowen's "Brandon Moved Away." There is not a teacher that can walk away from that song with a dry eye, for every teaher has had children that have left the emotional impact on their lives that Judy Bowen has so excellently captured. Make sure that Judy Bowen's Teacher Therapy is in your collection!

Review Title: Hilarious--And TRUE!
These songs sure hit home with me--and made me laugh at myself! I think Judy Domeny Bowen must have been in my classroom looking over my shoulder when she wrote these songs. Simply done with one voice and one guitar. Clarity of words is great. I highly recommend it! I'm planning to buy them as gifts for my teacher friends!

I'm an educational specialist here in Tampa, and have worked as an SLD teacher in county schools for 10 years. I just purchased ... [the CD which] warmed my spirit so much that I've ordered 10 more as holiday gifts. I identified with everything your songs brought up, especially the not having enough time to teach, to grade papers, and to pee! I'm still teary-eyed from the "Brandon" song, as I've had and still have students like Brandon that are constantly on my mind and in my heart. I think a CD like this one has been needed for a long time. It not only helps teachers feel better but also lets others understand the life of a teacher and how hard we work. Thanks for a job well done!

[Judy] must have been hiding behind the walls in our school for the past 26 years. Teacher Therapy CD was sent to me this past month. I laughed, cried, and related to every part of every song.

I received your CD last March for my 50th birthday ( and 25th year of teaching). It really is good for stress - you have certainly been there. Thanks for putting our (elementary teachers) feelings into song!
