"I cannot thank you enough for writing Learning Disabilities There is a Cure. I have attempted to understand my son's disability by speaking for over a year with school psychologist, special ed & reg ed teachers, and friends to no avail. Finally I came across your book at my local library. It was as if this book had been written for me. Simple enough for me to understand my son's disability. They way others explain was just too technical. Everyone did attempt to help me comprehend but your book was the only book that came through clearly. When I read the chapter on Visual Perception, I knew immediately that this was my son's problem; however I did not get that from the ER from school. You cannot imagine the emotions I felt for finally understanding that this was one of his disabilities. Finally an explanation for why he make mistakes with small words that are similar.
Your former students were very fortunate to have had you as a teacher. I can only hope to find someone like you to help my son.
THANK FOR YOUR AMAZING BOOK! I WILL RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE I KNOW IN MY SITUATION. I also recommended it to our school psychologist who advised she would recommend it to parents."

The author's suggestions help learners prevent or cope successfully with disability. The author is an experienced educational specialist who presents effective techniques for teaching specific learning skills such as visual and auditory memory skills and perceptual skills necessary for learning. Because of my research and experience with learning strategies and similarities - differences concept formation, I'm especially impressed by the practical applications she offers to parents, educators, and physicians. These techniques can be adapted to learners of any age.
This revised second edition of Learning Disabilities: There is a Cure includes two new chapters: application of learning strategies to the teaching of foreign languages and mathematics. It also presents updated details on the teaching of reading. I highly recommend this book as well as her other books:
Achieve: A Visual Memory Program
Auditory Sequential Memory Instructional Workbook and
Visual Discrimination: Noting Differences in Frequently Misperceived Words workbook.

Endorsements from Readers

I understand my own learning skill weaknesses so much better now. I wish I had known this years ago.

The book was easy to understand and clearly made me aware of the need we have to include these skills in our reading programs.

A wonderful book for all teachers to read, especially our future teachers.

Reviewer: a school psychologist
I understand in greater depth the specific learning skill areas involved with learning disabilities. It has helped me to improve my diagnostic work and to better meet the needs of dyslexic students.

Reviewer: a teacher
I look at my students differently now. I have become a better teacher as a result of reading your book. My students are learning to read and retain material at a much faster pace! Each chapter contains an explanation of various skills students must develop in order to learn with ease, the author's findings in regard to those skills, and then what is needed to teach these basic learning skills.

Title of Review: The Best Book on this Topic I've Read
The title of my review really says it all. This book gives hope and guidance. It is written by a real expert but she doesn't use a bunch of technical words. The book is a joy to read because of how she presents it and because of the information in it. You will find things you can do right now to help your child. ... Just read her book!

Review Title: A book all parents should read
I am a parent of a 9 year old child (3rd grader) who has had trouble in school since kindergarten. We have struggled to understand why such a bright child was having so much difficulty in school. This book helped us understand that the problem was that she was deficient in specific learning skills that could be developed with proper instruction. We didn't even realize these skills were involved in learning. It also offered suggestions as to what we could do, as parents, to help her develop these skills. It has given us the information we need to knowledgably discuss our concerns with her teachers.

Review Title: Reading Disabilities
I never realized there was so much to learn in order to read. Ms. Cusimano wrote it so well it is easy to understand. It will be a big help in assisting my Grandchildren. I hope it reaches alot of teachers to help alot of children

Review Title: For parents too!
This book is not just for educators but also for parents of children who are struggling to understand why their child, who is bright, is having trouble in school. This book describes in straightforward language the four basic types of learning skills, how to recognize deficiencies and what can be done to overcome them. It also explains the type of help you need for your child and why the typical classroom teacher is unable to help.

Review Title: A Valuable Book for All Teachers
Addie Cusimano's book was an eye-opener for me. As a former middle and high school science teacher, I always wondered why some of my students learned so easily, while others who were just as intelligent had difficulty. Now I know why. Had I known this when I was teaching, I would have been able to understand and help my students so much more.

Achieve: A Visual Memory Program

I have worked with all levels of Achieve: A Visual Memory Program for a number of years during its research stage. I have been impressed with the gains made by students (both gifted and challenged) from the age of five to adulthood. After the words have been used for the purpose of teaching visual memory, I found that they were excellent choices to expand reading, spelling, and vocabulary skills. We could quickly and easily discuss prefixes, suffixes and roots of words. This series helped round out our program of learning skills. I believe that anyone who uses it will appreciate the advances made by the students.

Reviewer: A Homeschooling Parent
After completing Levels one to four of Achieve, my son was given a standardized test. His reading improved two grades.

Review Title: No Child Left Behind
This is a great way to keep kids from being left behind. Many years ago, there was more of a focus on visual memory and more kids were better readers. It isn't the best technique for everyone. Yes, some kids do not learn best by this method but most kids do! Be sure to get another book by the same author also, Learning Disabilities: There is a Cure.

Auditory Sequential Memory Instructional Workbook

Reviewer: A grateful parent of a fifth grader in public school
I would like to express my gratefulness for the workbook, Auditory Sequential Memory Instructional Workbook. My daughter was in the fifth grade when I started using it with her. She had expressed a concern about "hearing the teacher talk but not being able to remember information." In using the workbook with her my husband and I have seen a steady improvement in her school work. I would like to see this workbook used as a regular classroom exercise.
